{"id":4992,"date":"2018-12-12T15:36:20","date_gmt":"2018-12-12T06:36:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.tohoku.ac.jp\/ged\/?p=4992"},"modified":"2018-12-20T15:40:32","modified_gmt":"2018-12-20T06:40:32","slug":"english-executive-vice-president-toshiya-ueki-attends-the-japan-spain-presidents-joint-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.tohoku.ac.jp\/ged\/4992?lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki attends the Japan\u2013Spain Presidents\u2019 Joint Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"The Japan\u2013Spain Presidents\u2019 Joint Symposium was held at the University of Salamanca in Spain on November 27 and 28, with Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki acting as moderator.<\/p>\n<p>This year marks the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Spain, which began with the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation in 1868. The venue for the symposium, the University of Salamanca, celebrated its 800th anniversary this year. About 40 representatives from universities and institutions in both countries gathered for the symposium, and under the main theme of \u201cEnhancing academic cooperation between Japan and Spain\u201d, they discussed the present situation regarding initiatives in higher education and research exchange in both countries, and also pertinent future issues.<\/p>\n<p>The city of Salamanca is located to the northwest of the Spanish capital Madrid, and its Old City is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
