This technology can produce stable carbonates by capturing CO<sub>2<\/sub> from the atmosphere and other sources, leading to CO<sub>2<\/sub> utilization and sequestration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The raw materials for CaO\/MgO in this technology are oxides, hydroxides, and hydrates of oxides. However, industrial wastes and byproducts can be applied as well, such as steel slag, waste concrete, coal ash, waste mine water, seawater (brine), concrete products, fresh concrete, and other industrial by-products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Picture refers to &#8220;Izumi et al., <em>J. Prod.<\/em> 312, 127618, 2021.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Environment Remediation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We are developing a wide range of environmental remediation technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"667\" height=\"411\" src=\"https:\/\/web.tohoku.ac.jp\/envchemeng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1129 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.tohoku.ac.jp\/envchemeng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-1.png 667w, https:\/\/web.tohoku.ac.jp\/envchemeng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/image-1-300x185.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><strong>Novel and Recycled Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Novel and recycled materials for environmental purification are developed to achieve the goal of a sustainable environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, in the left-hand side figure, the material derived from the cement and concrete recycling process was used as a novel neutralizer for environmental purification management of acid mine drainage.
