\u3067\u3042\u308a\u3001\u4e16\u754c\u7684\u306b\u6df1\u523b\u306a\u74b0\u5883\u554f\u984c\u3067\u3042\u308b<strong>\u5730\u4e0b\u6c34\u4e2d\u306e\u30d2\u7d20\u6c5a\u67d3<\/strong>\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u3001\u5305\u62ec\u7684\u304b\u3064\u5b9f\u8df5\u7684\u306a\u8996\u70b9\u304b\u3089\u8b1b\u6f14\u304c\u884c\u308f\u308c\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure The event featured <strong>Prof. Chien-Yen Chen (PhD)<\/strong> of National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan, a leading expert in environmental geochemistry and arsenic research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The colloquium was attended not only by members of the Mei Laboratory, but also by participants from Iizuka Laboratory, along with other interested researchers and students across the Graduate School of Environmental Studies (GSES), reflecting strong interdisciplinary engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his lecture, <strong>\u201cFrom Arsenic Cycling to Sustainable Remediation: Integrating Microbial Processes, Geochemistry, and Green Materials,\u201d<\/strong> Prof. Chen presented a comprehensive yet grounded perspective on one of the most persistent global environmental challenges\u2014<strong>arsenic contamination in groundwater<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing from extensive fieldwork in Taiwan and international collaborations, Prof. Chen illustrated how arsenic mobility and toxicity are shaped by the interplay of redox conditions, geological settings, and microbial activity. His discussion moved beyond theory, connecting environmental processes to real human health impacts, including chronic exposure risks linked to contaminated drinking water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A notable aspect of the lecture was its integration of environmental monitoring and human biomonitoring. Case studies from Taiwan\u2019s groundwater and geothermal systems, alongside research in India using hair, nail, and urine samples, shows the direct relationship between environmental arsenic levels and human exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Chen also emphasized forward-looking solutions, highlighting sustainable remediation strategies such as; (1) Microbially driven mineralization processes and (2) Iron-based nanomaterials for arsenic removal.
