Since this is the commemorative 20th workshop, several special sessions are arranged to discuss 'ENDE'.
The 20th ENDE workshop will start with a special keynote lecture by Professor Kenzo Miya who is one of the founders of ENDE Workshop.
The keynote lecture will provide valuable information on the historical background of ENDE. |
|
Professor Kenzo Miya received doctorate of engineering from the University of Tokyo (Nuclear Engineering) in 1969. He joined the Faculty of Engineering, the University of Tokyo, as an associate professor in 1972, and became a full professor of the faculty in 1993. He belonged to Keio University, Graduate School of Science and Technology, as a professor from 2001 to 2006, and Hosei University as a visiting professor from 2006 to 2010.. At present, he is Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokyo, President of Japan Society of Maintenology, President of International Center of Advanced Maintenance Technology, a member of Society for Promotion of Nuclear Safety and Utilization, and a member of National Nuclear Union. In addition to ENDE, he is the founding father of Int. Symp. on Fusion Nuclear Technology in 1988, Int. Symp. on Applied Electromagnetics & Mechanics in 1989, Asian Symp. on Applied Electromagnetics in 1996, and The Japan Society of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics in 1990. He has chaired many famous international academic meetings including Compumag, ISEM, and ISFNT, and has received many awards because of his extraordinary academic achievements. |
Subsequently to the Keynote Lecture by Prof. Miya, Professor Toshiyuki Takagi, who
has been ENDE ISC member and knows all ENDE Workshops held so far, will give us a
lecture on how ENDE Workshop has been developed. Professor Toshiyuki Takagi received his B.Eng., M.Eng., and D.Eng. degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 1977, 1979, and 1982, respectively. He was a researcher at the Energy Research Laboratory of Hitachi Ltd. from 1982 to 1987 and an Associate Professor at the Nuclear Engineering Research Laboratory of the University of Tokyo from 1987 to 1989. From 1989 to 1998 he was an Associate Professor, and since 1998 has been a Professor, at the Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University. His current research interests include nondestructive evaluation of materials using electromagnetic phenomena, diamond and diamond-like carbon coatings and their application, and adaptive structural systems using shape memory alloys. |
It is our great pleasure to invite Professor Gerd Dobmann who is one of the most famous researchers in our field.
Professor Dobmann has been the subject editor of the Journal of
NDT&E International for more than 10 years;
he will lecture about the global trend of ENDE studies in the past few decades on the basis of his experience as the editor.

Professor Gerd Dobmann received Ph.D. in applied physics from University of Saarland in 1979. He had been the head of department 'Electromagnetic Techniques in NDE' in the Fraunhofer Society, Institute for Non-destructive Testing (IZFP) from 1978 to 1995, deputy director of the institute from 1990 to 2010, division director 'Scientific Projects', Strategic Institute Development, from 1998 to 2010, and division director 'NDT-Development for Lifetime Management' from 2010 to 2011. Presently he is a free-lancer as Scientific Consultant in cooperation with the Chair of NDT and Quality Assurance of the Saar University. Professor Gerd Dobmann worked as a member of many committees including Pressurized Components and Materials of the German Nuclear Safety Commission and German Ministry of Economy and Technology in the Nuclear Safety Research Program. He has published more than 300 papers in the fields of non-destructive testing and nuclear safety; he received many academic awards including Dr.-Ing. E.h. by the school of electrical engineering of the University Kassel, Germany in 2005, Prof. Ing. E.h. of the Polytechnic Silesian University, Gliwice/Katowice, Poland in 2011, Roy Sharpe Award 2011 by the BINDT in 2012, and Fraunhofer Medal 2012. | ![]() |
The keynote lecture by Professor Dobmann will be followed by a panel session inviting three
distinguished researchers who serve as editors of international journals,

A session dedicated for students is organized on 23rd.
This session consists of short presentations briefly introducing the study and subsequent poster presentations.
The best presenters, which is on the basis of the voting by attendee, will be awarded at the closing ceremony.
All attendees of the workshop are kindly requested to evaluate each presentation and vote the best one during the session.
The instruction for the voting will be announced at the opening ceremony.

A session inviting several ISC members will be held at the end of the workshop
in order to discuss the future directions of ENDE workshops. The penelists of this session are
