Three-surface and multi-layer coated channel
Reduction of MHD pressure drop is an important issue for liquid Li/V-alloy blanket system.
We proposed the three-surface and multi-layer coated channel shown in the following figure,
as the solution of MHD pressure drop.
The channel is made by inserting a thin plate of vanadium alloy coated with insulated
layer onto inner surface of a vanadium alloy rectangular channel.

Three-surface and multi-layer coated channel has advantages of both
three-surface coated channel and multi-layer coated channel.
Multi-layer coated channel
- Insulated layer can prevent current from flowing to the channel wall.
- Metal thin plate can avoid crack generation at the insulated layer.
Three-surface coated channel
- There does not exist insulated layer on plasma-facing plane.
- Fabrication of three-surface coated channel is easier than that of four-surface coated channel
We are investigating the capability of the channel to reduce MHD pressure drop
by numerical analysis and experiments with a large magnetic field.
