Nuclear transmutation reaction of 90Sr
90Sr included in radioactive waste generated by a nuclear fission reactor
is one of the long-lived radionuclides.
The following reaction occurs when neutron of 14 MeV generated by a nuclear fusion reactor
collides against 90Sr.
90Sr + n → 89Sr + 2n
We can change the long-lived radionuclide, 90Sr, to a short-lived radionuclide
with the above reaction.
In addition, we can use 90Sr as neutron multiplier in a blanket.
Therefore, we propose to mix 90Sr to Flibe for the Advanced nuclear power and fuel cycle system.
Neutron transport calculation
We are investigating how much the above reaction occurs in Flibe blanket
with neutron transport calculation.
Furthermore, we are calculating TBR from the results.
We will take into account those results to design of Flibe blanket.
